Kathy King creates narrative imagery using black slip on mid-range porcelain (that is, cone 6ish) and a technique called sgraffito, a subtractive method of decoration in which the slip is scratched or carved away to create the image.
Kathy is giving a workshop at Portland Pottery in August!

Scraffigto is so fun...I love the Raven piece...I am trying to get my kids into this...I throw the mug...cover it with slip and let them draw.
I used to carve it for them...but now they do a pretty good job..they are pretty impressed with the final look...
and Mommy get's kids art that will last forever..:)
