Test Drive

I've been obsessed with dessert pots lately -- cake stands, sundae cups, banana split boats. I got the first of the series out of today's kiln load, and immediately had to try it out. The dessert, a Mississippi Mudcake, was exactly what I envisioned when I made the piece.
I often say that functional pottery is artwork that is only complete when it is in use. I was glad for the chance to finish this one off.

I love pedestal type dishes and flower vases, they are so elegant, this one looks great.

Ya know, I really like this piece! It's a refreshing alternative to the other cake plates I see: ruffled edges on a pedestal with pastel colors. Don't get me wrong, they are fine- it's just that your rendition is more in line with my taste, and I like mud cake too!! :)
