I really, really need a new laptop, preferably before but possibly shortly after I put my fist through this one. I really can't complain - which doesn't stop me, not at all - because this machine was several years old when I bought it in 2011. (Hint: It's an IBM, not a Lenovo.) All of the software is maxed out; it can't take anything newer. The browsers make me pull my hair with waiting. And now I can't upload files to my website anymore, or type the letter "f" without both hands. The letter A is a little hinky, too.
The good news is, I have proceeds from holiday sales (which, of course, I would have preferred to spend on something else!) The bad news is, I haven't a clue what sort of laptop to buy. I see there are lots in my range, and even below; but how do I know they aren't crap?
So, putting it to all of you: I have $300(ish) to spend, though I'd rather spend less: what kind of laptop should I get? What kind do you use?
ETA: Luckily I was able to repair my two funky keys, so I can stop spelling funky with a "ph." (Not to mention "phuck this shit."And I found a work-around for uploading files: Filezilla! How did I not know about this? Anyway, crisis averted, so I can spend my $300 on what I had originally planned: a dishwasher!

My husband is an IT specialist and really knows his computers. He says Best Buy is having a good sale now and that an Asus 15.6 " laptop, it has an Intel core I 3 and 4 gigs of memory and a 1 TB hard drive. Plenty of space for all your photos. All for $300! Hope this helps 😊
I have always used Apple products, but they aren't $300. I will say worth the investment though. Over the years of reading blogs, I wonder at all the posts about computer troubles. I have never had one single problem with my computers ever. Never owned a PC, only Macs. I have no virus issues, and don't even know what half of the problems are described by others. I have a macbook air right now an absolutely love it. My husband has only used Apple my daughter's film school required Macs only. Can't beat them.
Best of luck with whatever you decide. I will say, from a customer service standpoint, Best Buy has always been great to deal with. My mom bought some cheap weird off brand computer and she takes it to Best Buy every other week, they are always patient with her and solve her issues.... I have always had great service with them too
Happy New Year!
I'm with Tracey and have never used anything but Apples! And when I did need service they were great!
Also Best Buy is the best for service. They put in my car stereo system and were terrific!
Wishing you Joy in 2016!
I agree Apples are awesome, and worth the money. No doubt BMWs are as well, but I won't be purchasing one of those, either. Can't spend money I don't have. (Actually, though, I had a TERRIBLE experience with Apple's support/service department when I was using the iPod Touch, so there's that.)
I will, however look into the Best Buy sale. Thanks for the great tip!
